Originally a Roman outpost on a bend in the Adige River (Fiume Adige) in the first century BCE, Verona has grown and expanded beyond its walls several times over the subsequent millenia. The Adige itself flows at an average annual rate of about 235 cubic meters per second and has been used as an important power supply in mill-wheel supported manufacturing operations.
Today, we are being fed and led by our Group Leader, Luisa, around the city. Verona is supremely walkable-so far-and the weather is mild. We’ve had a grand time meeting and getting to know our fellow travelers/scholars, many of whom are veterans of previous Living/Learning tours. In fact, some have gone further by returning outside of the tour package to continue their Italian studies independently. We WILL be plying them for further information.
