Italians like cash but they don’t like to give a lot of little change. The more you can arrange it so that they can give you your change as efficiently as possible, the better they like it. Have a bill for €35,50 but only have a €50 note? Dig around in your pocket and see if you can come up with 50 centesimi (€0,50). Your change: €15 even and a much happier Italian. I’ve had them pick through the change in my palm until they gathered together some sort of esoteric combination of values that kept the change they had to give me minimal–it worked.
Rubbish for us apartment dwellers is deposited in specific bins curbside. These may be just outside, down the street, or around the corner, but they are everywhere. Please separate your refuse into glass/tins, paper, plastic, and finally, organic:
